ABOUT: All KBC-brand bells are finished by hand, come in black and are coated in a baked acrylic, powder coated finish--easily the smoothest finish currently available. A powder coated, hand polished finish provides the perfect medium between bells that are too slippery (which is why we moved away from an epoxy coating) and a nice textured finish, but not rough so that it will irritate your grip.

INSTRUCTORS: Beyond finishes and types of kettlebells available, easily the most important aspect of KB training is the instructor--and that is where KBC excels. Kettlebell lifting is a skill that demands a bit of patience on the part of the learner--and even the fitness professional when THEY are learning from KBC! Learning the skills and sciences behind KB training is easily compared to Pilates and Yoga in this regard. We cannot emphasize the importance of personal instruction enough. KBC is the industry leader in fitness education and ALL of our instructors listed on our locator are currently practicing, certified, fitness professionals. Check out our KBC instructor locator to find an instructor in your area. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, and good luck with your training!

COLORS: As of 4/2009, we have decided to no longer manufacture grey bells.

PICK UP IN BRICK, NJ: KBC-brand kettlebells (only) ARE available for pick up at our distributor's warehouse (SIL FITNESS) in Brick, NJ from 9-5pm EST Mon-Fri.

EDUCATION: If you're unclear as to where to start, call 800-876-6090 x8071 and listen to our message about what weights to start with, why we suggest these weights, a basic explanation of why kettlebells are different, and much more. (Approx 6 minutes.)

You may train for a long time, but if you merely move your hands and feet and jump up and down like a puppet, learning karate is not very different from learning a dance. You will never have reached the heart of the matter; you will have failed to grasp the quintessence of karate-do.

So what’s our point? At KettleBell Concepts we’re encouraging you NOT to swallow the hype swirling around KB’s. Dig deeper. It’s far more than just “learning the moves.” If you want to “learn the moves” go on to YouTube and “learn” them. But clients are putting their most prized possession in your hands (their BODY!) so we know you’re a lot more responsible than that. Right? RIGHT??  There’s MUCH more to this discipline. (Note the word discipline.) Competitive Girevoy Sport (kettlebell) lifters spend YEARS trying to master just two lifts: The Snatch and Clean and Jerk. Do you think you can possibly “learn kettlebells” in a pre-conference workshop? In 9 hours? In 16 hours? In 3 days? In a lifetime?

If you said “no”. . . .that’s good. You just passed your first test. ;)  You’re the kind of elite professional we’d be proud to call a KBC-trained Instructor. We want to welcome you to our curriculum. Please keep reading.

  • You’ll begin learning the sciences of the “why’s” behind the “how’s” and you’ll do so safely and effectively with science and research needed to back it up.
  • You’ll learn some history. You’re entering into a long, long, storied tradition of “Physical Culture.” If you’re a martial artist, you know your style’s lineage. If you’re a yogi, you know your style’s lineage. If you practice Pilates, you know about Joseph Pilates. KBC demands no less from our instructors. Where did kettlebells come from? Why did they disappear for all these years? Why are they finally coming back now with such a vengeance? Where is the modality heading?
  • You’ll learn how to conduct a basic, choreographed routine (with music) using basic kettlebell lifts for a 30-50 minute group exercise class and you’ll receive some basic choreography to help keep you going.
  • You’ll learn how to start thinking of kettlebell training from a neurophysiological, biomechanical, kinesiological, and motor learning/control perspective and—more importantly—how this larger thought process can benefit you on a broader scale as a fitness professional. “Tell. Show. Do” has its place. But there are other things you should be consider!
  • You’ll learn how to effectively teach the basic kettlebell lifts for improved skill acquisition and context-dependent functional transfer.
  • Basic choreography will be provided at the end of class and students will also be put through a 45 minute Master class. This course is on a much more basic level than our Level 1 or Level 2 courses. It is conducted with lighter kettlebells (10-20lbs max) because the assumption is there will probably be 20+ people in the class and therefore the lifts taught must be much more basic as well. Additionally, because most group classes that do not have a definitive "start or stop," progression into heavier weights is limited.

This is the tip of the iceberg. With ongoing education, training, practice, time and patience, you’ll become fantastic with KB’s and (of course!) offer a kick butt 30-45 minute class to your devotees! Most importantly you’ll be able to effectively aid your clients in getting to where they need to be—and you’ll know WHY you’re doing what you’re doing.

All KBC Senior Instructors are taught that, although the Group Exercise program is a great way to implement a kettlebell program into a facility, kettlebells (like dumbbells, barbells, or anything else) have extremely limited use if clients stay there and not progress into heavier bells and learn more advanced lifts.

We look forward to working with you to get your program up and running! We're happy to provide you with an interview below by KBC Senior Instructor Kristen Gagne. In Kristen's interview, she discusses how excited her personal trainers are about having the potential to break in to the "group fitness world" using kettlebells. As she is often fond of saying, "Classes don't cancel on you!"

Learn:

  • How KB's are perfectly positioned to help trainers slowly break in to the group exercise classroom.
  • Why being a personal trainer means nothing when it comes to running a group exercise class.
  • Why there is such a wide divide between group exercise and personal trainers? (Especially in NY and CA.)
  • Learn how to "bridge the gap" for yourself as a professional and earn more money!
  • Solid tips and advice from a 17 year veteran.
  • Why group fitness isn't just for women and how it got that reputation to begin with!

Level 2: Kettlebells for Metabolic and Neurological Adaptation (KBCMNS Specialist) from David Ganulin on Vimeo.

You’ve been asking for it and now it’s here!

Authored by KBC's Director of Education: Vincent Metzo.

What is this training all about? Why should you take it? Suffice to say it goes WAY beyond the basics.

It’s divided into two parts:

  • Part 1: Training for Metabolic Adaptations with Kettlebells
  • Part 2: Training for Neurological Adaptations with Kettlebells

  • Part 1 covers advanced level concepts on metabolism, metabolic adaption, intervals, ladders, circuits, periodization and more. Vince will discuss various types of muscular endurance and--more importantly--there will be significant drilling on advanced kettlebell techniques and exercises for making sports specific transitions in metabolic program design.
  • Part 2 covers training for Neurological Adaptations with Kettlebells and discusses advanced concepts such as lateralization of cerebral function, motor learning, gross and fine motor skills, skill acquisition, the triune theory of brain function, and much more. There will be kettlebell programs/workouts for developing primitive movements (the foundations of motor abilities), gross motor skills, balance, reaction and timing, coordination, and others.

Finally there will be discussions on designing KB programs specifically for endurance athletes. You’ll learn how to design to avoid accommodation and overtraining, active recovery strategies, as well as strategies to correct kinetic chain dysfunction. You will walk out of the weekend armed not only with concrete program designs (that you’ll generate with your classmates) but also an arsenal of “new” KB exercises that you’ve probably never seen before!

More importantly, you’ll know not only how to perform the techniques, but also when (or even if) you should use them with a particular client. There will be advanced work with the kb’s here! Asymmetrical loading. Off balance and stability work. LOTS of fantastic stuff to bring you to the next level as a KBC-trained instructor.

    TESTIMONIAL: LEVEL 2

"Hello David, I'm one of the Trainers from Gainesville Health and Fitness that had recently taken the KBC Level 2 certification course with Vince Metzo and I wanted to say it was one of the best continuing education workshops I have attended. Vince was very accommodating and took a lot of time preparing us to incorporate kettlebells into our training. I've already been applying the concepts to my training and my clients and I are having a blast!

You have an amazing instructor on your team and I hope that our team will continue maintaining a working relationship with KBC. Thank you for providing quality education and training, something that can be difficult to come across in the fitness world.

    All the best!"
